🗳️ Membership Voting for Union & Club Elections

You can now run members-only elections without uploading a single voter list!

Until now, getting voters onto your electoral roll meant importing a spreadsheet of voters or enabling university SSO. With Membership Voting, your electoral roll builds itself: anyone holding an active membership simply opens the ballot, logs in, and votes, eligibility is checked automatically.

Whether it's a union-wide student election or a club AGM committee vote, the same option is available right from the election creation page.

How it works

  1. When creating an election (as a union or as a club) select the new Membership Voting card under Advanced Options.

  2. Choose who's eligible:

  • All memberships - any student with an active membership can vote, or

  • Specific memberships - pick exactly which membership types qualify (e.g. only Full Members, not Associates).

  1. Share the ballot link with your members.

When a student opens the ballot, we verify they hold a current, valid membership of a qualifying type and add them to the electoral roll on the spot. The checks happen right when the student accesses the ballot.

Good to know

  • Memberships are scoped to you. Union elections validate against the union's own membership types; club elections validate against that club's membership types.

  • Works alongside voter imports. You can still add or import voters manually, anyone on your uploaded list can vote via their voter link as usual, whether or not they hold a membership.

  • Expired and invalid memberships don't count. Only active, valid memberships qualify.

  • One person, one vote. Voting once removes the ballot from reach, exactly as with every other election type.

  • Like SSO, membership validation is locked in when you create the election, though you can still adjust which specific membership types qualify until voting opens.
