Hiding executive details from public view

A few Clubs have raised concerns about the names of their exec team being publicly visible, especially where the Club happens to be related to a topic of wider public discourse (which the Club or Club Executives may or may not actively be involved with). The worry is that this exposes their identities to potential privacy breaches, such as doxing by bad actors, whether within the University community or beyond.

We agree that this is something to be concerned about and different Clubs will have an higher risk of this happening at different times..

In order to address this, we’d like to see the following implemented (noting that this should not impact the Admin view/site, full names should always be visible there)

  • Exec names are always hidden from public view and are instead only visible when once logged into Rubric

  • Within their Club settings a Club can change how their Exec details are presented to students once they’re logged in. By default it’s the full name

  • The following alternate options (aside from full name) are proposed in order of preference, but we’re only asking for at least ONE of these options to be available

    • Pseudonyms/Preferred Name – Each Exec can set a display name to be used

    • First Name ONLY (e.g. John)

    • First Name, Last Initial (e.g. John S)

    • First Initial, Last Initial (e.g. J S)

    • Names hidden completely

This is a great idea, especially since some of our students may have privacy concerns. It might also be helpful for them to be able to hide certain exec members and list others, but have it so that the SU can always view the exec names.
